Chuck D - Hip-Hop at 30?

In a HardTalk Extra interview screened on 20th January, Gavin Esler speaks to Chuck D of ground-breaking rap group Public Enemy.

Chuck D is the voice of Public Enemy, the controversial and hugely successful hip-hop act whose music fused the energy of rap with politics and biting social commentary.

Thirty years on from the birth of hip hop, Public Enemy continue to tour and release music with the same ferocious call for action.

Hip hop has now turned into a multi-billion dollar industry, so does he believe that its message of social change has been lost?

HARDtalk Extra can be seen on BBC World at 0430 GMT, 0830 GMT, 1130 GMT, 1530 GMT, 1930 GMT, 0030 GMT.

It can also be seen on BBC News 24 at 04:30 and 23:30.
