Kyle returns to Breakfast

Kyle Jones

Five months ago on Breakfast, we followed the moving journey of Kyle Jones - a visually impaired teenager - to Sierra Leone. Tomorrow Kyle gets his GCSE results - but as barely one in three blind people get jobs, what future can Kyle hope for?

Earlier this year, Breakfast followed Kyle met up with his long standing pen-pal, Ibrahim Conteh, who lives in Sierra Leone. Both boys are visually impaired.

In a series of three special films, Breakfast's Graham Satchell travelled with the children from the Dorton House School for the Blind.

Kyle and Anita Dobson

This morning on Breakfast, Kyle told us his hopes for the future.

He'd like to be a radio DJ and has done some work experience at a local radio station. But he's concerned that when he leaves college, he'll be discriminated against in the job market.

"I need to know that there's going to be something out there for me to do"
Kyle

Anita stressed that blind school and college leavers do not want special treatment - but just want to be given the same chances as everyone else.

And Kyle reminded employers that they do not need to fund any extra equipment that disabled people may need to do their jobs - this equipment is government funded.
