Protests at Tehran University

There has been a confrontation at Tehran university between pro-reform students and hard-liners.

Several thousand students gathered inside and outside the university compound, where they called for the release of detained intellectuals and journalists and denounced hard-line politicians.

Several hundred hard-line supporters tried to break up the demonstration and a number of students are reported to have been injured in clashes.

Police and university officials eventually persuaded the two groups to disperse.
