Yemen blast 'kills five people'

At least five people have been killed in an explosion in north-western Yemen, according to news reports.

Local officials said they do not yet know what caused the explosion, which happened at a post office.

But the blast is reported to have hit the province of Saada, which has seen sporadic fighting between Shia rebels and government forces.

Several hundred people have been killed in the area since a rebellion broke out in 2004.

The government and rebels had agreed a ceasefire six months ago but fighting resumed earlier this year.

Most people in Yemen are Sunni Muslims, and the government has accused the Shia militia, led by Abdulmalik al-Houthi, of trying to seize power and impose religious law.
