New Israeli raid targets Nablus

Israeli raid in Nablus 1 March 2007 Israeli forces have wounded at least two Palestinians in a fresh raid in the West Bank city of Nablus, Palestinian sources say.

They say Israeli jeeps poured into the city centre and troops opened fire before withdrawing.

It was the latest in a number of raids in the West Bank over the past week.

Israel says it is looking for militants and weapons stores. Palestinian officials have accused the Israelis of unprovoked aggression.

Palestinian Prime Minister-designate Ismail Haniya has said Israel is trying to undermine a recent unity agreement between Palestinian factions.

Nablus is the West Bank's second-largest city and formerly a commercial hub. Israel says it is a militant stronghold.
