The Algerian president, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, has pledged to restore business confidence in his country and has warned Islamic militants that they will be eradicated after his amnesty offer expires in January.
Speaking to an international business forum in Monaco, Mr Bouteflika said he was determined to overhaul what he called a tarnished state, rebuild a new society and create solid legal and banking systems. He said that a key goal was developing small farming, and more intensive agriculture, with private investment playing a leading role. The President has set a deadline of January the thirteenth as the end of a period of partial amnesty for militants.
He said that after that, those who disturbed peaceful life or threatened property would be eradicated.
