Arabic newspapers put the Beirut meeting of Arab foreign ministers on Lebanon under the spotlight, with several angry that it took almost four weeks for the gathering to happen.
One commentator says the ministers are motivated by shame and that their decision to send a delegation to the UN is the result of "connivance with the enemy".
Other papers lament that the Arab position is "unacceptably weak" and that Lebanon has been left "alone and isolated".
ABDEL BARI ATWAN IN PAN-ARAB AL-QUDS AL-ARABI
Arab leaders are now acting after they realized that the Arab Islamic resistance in Lebanon will not be subdued or forced to surrender... They made their diplomatic move by sending a delegation to New York to discuss amendments to the UN Security Council draft resolution, which ignores the demands of the Lebanese people... This Arab move will bear no fruit since it is an effort that's come about through connivance with the enemy. It is a move which came as a result of shame and not true desire to save Lebanon and its people.
UMAR JIFTALI IN SYRIA'S TISHRIN
The Arab position is unacceptably weak and the peoples of the Arab nation cannot understand it. They have seen in the Lebanese national resistance the embodiment of the Arab nation, pride, dignity and a sure-footed dash towards the liberation of the occupied territories.
MUHAMMAD NAJI UMAYRAH IN JORDAN'S AL-RA'Y
Some people believe that the official Arab move to save the situation in Lebanon has come really late, while others say better late that never. Either way, let us wait for the long-awaited summit which they said will be held in Mecca or Medina - maybe.
EGYPT'S AL-JUMHURIYAH
Upon their arrival in Beirut, the Arab foreign ministers issued a strong message of solidarity with sisterly Lebanon and her courageous resistance in the face of the US-made, Israeli-executed aggression. Some people see that this message has reached the international community really late, just as some Arabs were late in understanding the real goals of this aggression.
IBRAHIM NAFI IN EGYPT'S AL-AHRAM
In my assessment, holding the Arab foreign ministers' meeting in Beirut sends an important message to the international powers who may have misread some of the initial positions of the Arab countries who have expressed some reservations over Hezbollah operations at the beginning of the crisis.
ZUHAYR MAJID IN OMAN'S AL-WATAN
The call to hold an emergency Arab summit for Lebanon was not a surprise. The surprise is that this summit has not been held yet and that Lebanon is left alone and isolated while it is fighting and resisting.
