Amman hotel bombings in detail

At least 56 people died and some 100 were injured in the near-simultaneous blasts. Details from the three blast sites are given below.

GRAND HYATT HOTEL

The explosion at the Grand Hyatt Hotel was caused by a suicide bomber, according to the Jordanian deputy prime minister.

The bomb was detonated in the bar area of the hotel just before 2100 local time.

The BBC's Caroline Hawley had been dining in the hotel's restaurant when she saw a ball of orange flames and shattering glass, before people fled amid scenes of absolute panic and chaos.

Two leading Palestinian security officials - West Bank military intelligence chief Maj Gen Bashir Nafeh and his aide, Col Abel Allun - were among those killed in the blast.

RADISSON SAS HOTEL

The blast at the Radisson hotel destroyed a banquet room where some 250 people were attending a wedding reception. The fathers of the bride and groom were among the dead.

The hotel is a popular venue with Western workers as well as affluent Jordanians and visiting Israelis.

The explosion scattered shrapnel across a large area, injuring dozens of people.

Among them was a young woman who appeared to have been paralysed by shrapnel in her back, Reuters news agency reports.

DAYS INN HOTEL

The attack on Amman's Days Inn hotel was carried out using a vehicle packed with explosives, Jordanian officials said.

It blew up after being stopped at police checkpoint outside the US-owned hotel.
