A suspected suicide car bomb has exploded in Baghdad, killing a child and injuring four other people, police in the Iraqi capital say.
Plumes of smoke were seen rising after the blast at about 0830 (0530 GMT) in the north-eastern part of the city.
The bomb went off near a Sunni mosque and several hospitals, sources in the interior ministry said.
In a separate development, a US marine was killed on Monday in the western Anbar province, the US military said.
More than 1,500 American soldiers have been killed in Iraq since the US-led invasion in March 2003.
Security stepped up
Tuesday's car blast happened in Baghdad's Bab al-Muadhim district, and could be heard across the capital.
One child died in the blast and four people were injured, Iraqi police said.
They said the man believed to have been responsible also died in the attack.
The explosion occurred near the Adilah Khatoun mosque and the Medical City complex known as the Madinat al-Tob in the predominantly Sunni Muslim area, officials said.
Two of Baghdad's main bridges in the city centre were shut on Tuesday as security was stepped up, a day before the newly-elected parliament was due to meet inside the heavily-guarded Green Zone, the AFP news agency reported.
