Palestinian militant killed

Israeli troops have shot dead a Palestinian militant in an overnight operation in the Balata refugee camp near the West Bank town of Nablus.

Both the Israeli army and Palestinians named him as Osama Badra - a member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and recently active in Islamic Jihad.

An Israeli spokeswoman said he had been shot on the roof of his house while fleeing arrest.

She said he had ignored orders to stop.

Eleven alleged members of Islamic Jihad and eight other suspected militants have been detained in operations throughout the West Bank, including the town of Tulkarm and the city of Hebron.
