Christmas switch-on

A huge crowd packed into Derry city centre on Wednesday night for the celebrity switch-on of the Christmas lights.

Younger members of the crowd were waiting for Santa to arrive while the older ones were more keen on Coronation Street's Antony Cotton.

Among those enjoying the excitement were Aoife Doherty, Richard Downey, Elizabeth Zammitt and Rebecca Downey.

Ten-year-old Caoimhe Parke made the extra effort with some colourful face paint.

Emma Fisher got into the festive spirit with some glow sticks while waiting for Santa's grand entrance...

...and when the big man finally arrived, it was not by his traditional reindeer but on a crane.

Cotton was joined on stage by Santa and Mayor Gerard Diver for the big switch-on, which lit up the city centre with just five weeks to go until the big day.
