Pakistani rescuers recovered several more bodies from Islamabad's bomb-ravaged Marriott Hotel on Sunday. At least 53 people are now known to have been killed in Saturday's blast in the capital.

The lorry-bomb explosion left a 20ft (6m) crater in front of the hotel. The blast is thought to have been caused by some 600kg of high quality explosives.

At least 270 people were injured in the hotel, popular with foreigners and the Pakistani elite.

Rescue efforts were being hampered by heat debris. Officials also warned that the 290-room hotel could collapse.

Emergency services were unable to reach the upper floors for hours after the explosion.

Investigators were painstakingly sifting through the wreckage for evidence. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack but fingers are being pointed at Taleban militants.

The hotel owner said a lorry blew up as it was being checked by security at the entrance. A huge area of the hotel remained on fire hours after the explosion.
