Squamanita pearsonii was the Moelyci Environment Centre's star find of 2007. Its common name is strathy strangler and it is a parasite on other grassland fungi, particularly on species of cystoderma. This specimen was the first for Wales.

Clavaria zollingeri is a beautiful coral-like fungus in the fairy club group. It comes in a variety of shades from rose pink to a dark purple and grows in dense clusters.

Hygrocybe ingrata is one of the rarest of the waxcaps and is always associated with sites which have an exceptional diversity of grassland fungi, such as the unimproved grasslands which still survive at Moelyci and other parts of north west Britain.

Geoglossum atropurpureum is a large and uncommon member of the earthtongue group - at Moelyci it grows in rings (a habit rarely seen in earthtongues) and resembles chunky purple-black liquorice.

Hygrocybe splendidissima is a member of the charismatic and colourful group known as waxcaps. This one is uncommon and can be distinguished from similar but much commoner red species by its scent which is very sweet - like honey.
