Captured war crimes suspect Radovan Karadzic was working in an alternative medical clinic in Belgrade, sporting a long white beard, and calling himself Dragan Dabic, Serbian officials have said.

News that the former Bosnian Serb leader had been arrested by Serbian security services near Serbia's capital was announced late on Monday.

The writing in Serbian on a business card - reportedly used by Mr Karadzic in his alternative medicine practice - reads: "Quantum, spiritual energetic medicine, reiki."

Mr Karadzic has been described as "a highly cultural, tolerant man, with a good sense of humour" by Healthy Magazine's editor Goran Kojic. He contributed regularly to the magazine as 'Dragan Dabic'.

The indicted war crimes suspect is now in detention at the special court in Belgrade, which is being guarded by special police.

Among other war crimes, Mr Karadzic has been indicted for the 1995 massacre at Srebrenica, where up to 8,000 Bosniak men were killed. He was the Bosnian Serb leader during the 1992-1995 war.

Some nationalist Serbs still support Mr Karadzic and his military commander Ratko Mladic - another indicted war crimes suspect still on the run.
