The Queen's official birthday was marked by a flypast of aircraft, including a Hercules and two King Air 200s. It was one of the biggest flypasts in recent years, honouring 90 years of the RAF.

The aircraft flying in formation above Buckingham Palace were captured by Cpl Scott Robertson of the RAF's Combat Camera - part of the air force's media and communications team.

Cpl Robertson took the photographs while flying in an A109 helicopter at about 2,000ft, 400ft above the formations. "The pilot was fairly good in terms of positioning and it was pretty stable," he said.

The RAF's strategic transport aircraft, the Lockheed Tristar, also headed a formation. It was flanked by two HS 125 liaison aircraft from RAF Northolt, north-west London.

One of the RAF's five C-17 Globemaster III transport aircraft also led a group. It was accompanied by two Tornado F3s. The Queen also marked her official birthday with the Trooping the Colour parade.
