Missing schoolgirl Shannon Matthews has been found alive after being missing since 19 February. Police say a 39-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of abduction.

The nine-year-old was found in the base of a divan bed in a property in Batley Carr, West Yorkshire.

The force said the operation was the biggest missing person's case it had undertaken since the hunt for the Yorkshire Ripper.

Following Shannon's disappearance on 19 February candles were lit during prayer services in the Dewsbury area. She was missing for over three weeks.

Forensic officers entered Shannon's home. Her father, who lives in Huddersfield, claimed the youngster said she wanted to live with him.
