In pictures: Ugandan pothole painting

Artists in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, have held their first street festival, which included painting some of the city's many potholes.

The potholes were first filled in with a mixture of cement and plaster of Paris, before being painted. Metal handles were also fitted, so the artwork could be removed.

Local people were encouraged to join professional artists to make their mark.

"There's lots of entertainment in the city, but it's also a place of nature and that's why I'm using the leaf design and the colour green," says artist Daudi Karungi.

The artworks will be auctioned to raise money for a contemporary art museum in Kampala.
