The people of Africa's most populous nation, Nigeria, are at the polls to choose their state governors. Next Saturday they will return to vote in the presidential elections.

Fears of violence and rigging are most pertinent in the oil-rich, troubled Niger Delta. Reportedly, some polling stations in Port Harcourt did not have booths for people to vote in secret.

The winners of this Saturday's vote will have a big effect on daily life for Nigeria's 140m inhabitants. For the rest of the world though, the main focus is next week's presidential polls.
