British designer John Galliano has marked his 10 years as chief designer for Christian Dior with another spectacular haute couture fashion show in Paris.

His show was heavily influenced by a recent trip to Japan and featured lantern-laden headdresses, origami-style pleats, kimono gowns and bonsais.

This dress is inspired by woodblock print artist Hokusai, famed for his depiction of Mount Fuji.

The show also marked the 60th anniversary of Christian Dior's New Look which established the house's influence in the post-war years.

Only a handful of houses continue to produce these hand-made creations, and few with the showmanship of Galliano.

The designer himself appeared in the show's grand finale dressed as Benjamin Franklin Pinkerton, a character in Madame Butterfly which also inspired this year's designs.
