Relief efforts are continuing in the southern Philippines after mudslides left hundreds of people dead or missing.

The mudslides were triggered by Typhoon Durian. Heavy rain drove ash and debris from the slopes of Mt Mayon, the country's most active volcano.

Entire villages were engulfed and farmland devastated by what one resident described as a wall of water.

Infrastructure has been hard hit, with power lines down and roads and bridges washed away.

Rescuers are searching for more survivors and have been using hands and spades to pull bodies from the heavy mud.

Hundreds more people are injured. Disaster agencies have appealed for fresh water, food and medicine.

Many of the dead have already been buried, because of fears over the spread of disease.
