After being released from prison on bail, Dutt got into shape to resume his film career.

Soon, he was shooting in a number of films - he shot nearly a dozen films between 1995 and 1999, steadily building a fan following with macho roles.

Over the years Dutt matured as an actor in action, gangster and comic roles.

Dutt launched a home production movie company. One of the films he produced and acted in was a Bollywood adaptation of Quentin Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs

Dutt was very close to his father, the late actor-turned-politician Sunil Dutt (far right).

In recent years, Dutt has flowered as an actor and spoken frankly about his earlier drug habits and personal problems.

He has also transformed himself into a more confident performer, seen here in his 2006 hit Lage Raho Munnabhai.
