The worst snowfall in decades has swept across South Asia, claiming hundreds of lives. Thousands of people are still stranded on roads in Indian-administered Kashmir.

Srinagar is also snowbound. Residents have suffered gas and power cuts. Worst-hit were some of the villages south of Srinagar which were buried in avalanches.

Citizens in Srinagar put a brave face on the power and communication cuts, but weather forecasters say more avalanches are likely as snow melts.

Villagers in Toba Khakri on Pakistan's border with Afghanistan await military relief supplies. North-West Frontier Province is the worst-hit region in Pakistan.

The Pakistani military drops supplies in the Teerah Valley in the Khyber Agency. Rain and snow have hit Pakistan from the far north to Balochistan in the south.

Supplies also had to be dropped in Afghanistan's south-eastern Zabul province. Hundreds have died in the country, many of them children, officials say.

The snows were blamed for bringing down a Kam Air plane on 3 February. It crashed on a mountain near Kabul, killing all 104 on board.
