Voices from Gaza

Israeli air attacks on the Gaza Strip have resumed after a three-hour truce to allow in humanitarian aid, with border tunnels apparently the main target.

Nearly 700 Palestinian and 11 Israeli lives are said to have been lost since the offensive began 12 days ago.

The BBC News website has been in contact with Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. Here they tell us what has been happening in their towns and cities.

Ahmad Al-Najjar, of the Palestinian Ministry of Education, described a night of non-stop fighting in Khan Younis.

He said the whole area was bombed continually through the night.

Ahmad described how the tanks, helicopters and jets shelled relentlessly, terrifying the children.

Egyptian aid workers at the Rafah border

Fikra Shalltoot, an aid worker from the Ar-Rimal neighbourhood of Gaza City described the situation over the last 24 hours.

Fikra described hearing the airstrikes, saying that previous targets were bombed again, causing a fire in one building.

She said it was one of the most difficult nights for the people of Gaza.

Ambulance standing by to collect Palestinians

Dr El-Essi works in Shifa hospital and he explains the difficulties paramedics have in treating the injured.

He said that medical staff are now outnumbered by the injured and they are struggling to cope.

He said paramedics were having trouble reaching the injured, as ambulances could not go into areas which were being shelled.
