Suffolk murders map

In December 2006 five Ipswich women who worked as prostitutes were found dead. Steve Wright, who lived in the town, has been convicted of their murders. See below for where and when the women were found, plus links to profiles.

IPSWICH

Ipswich, the county town of Suffolk, has a population of 120,000. It lies on the main railway line from London to Norwich and is connected by road to the ports of Felixstowe and Harwich and to London.

The red light district, where the five women were known to work, is near the Portman Road football stadium on the western side of the town.

2 DECEMBER - GEMMA ADAMS

Gemma Adams was found in a water near Hintlesham The naked body of Gemma Adams, 25, was found in Belstead Brook, a stream near the village of Hintlesham by a member of the public.

Her partner reported her missing on 15 November, having walked with her into Ipswich town centre, where she had gone to work as a prostitute.

Miss Adams lived in a suburb of the town and she grew up in Kesgrave, a village close to Ipswich.

8 DECEMBER - TANIA NICOL


Tania Nicol's body was found in Copdock

Tania Nicol, 19, was reported missing by her mother on 30 October after not hearing from her for 48 hours. Her body was found in the same brook as Gemma Adams' body, around two miles away near the village of Copdock.

She grew up on a housing estate on the outskirts of the town where she lived with her mother and younger brother.

10 DECEMBER - ANNELI ALDERTON


Anneli Alderton's body was the third to be found, at Nacton

A motorist spotted the body of Anneli Alderton, 24, in woodland near the village of Nacton. A few days earlier another motorist had seen the body but thought it was a mannequin and did not report it.

Popular when a student at Copleston High School, not far from Nacton, Miss Alderton had a son, and had lived in Cyprus.

12 DECEMBER - PAULA CLENNELL AND ANNETTE NICHOLLS


Annette Nicholls and Paula Clennell were found near Levington

The bodies of Paula Clennell and Annette Nicholls were found in countryside near the village of Levington.

Paula Clennell, 24, had not been seen since the early hours of 10 December. Her body was found by a member of the public.

Annette Nicholls, 29, had been missing since 8 December. Her body was spotted by a police helicopter.
