BBC News and Sport on interactive TV

The BBC News Multiscreen

Do you want to catch up with the news headlines, watch extra live Sport unavailable elsewhere, or get an update on the weather?

Well, you can - and you can choose whether you do so in video or text by using the BBC Red Button service on your digital television.

To receive these services, simply press the RED button on your handset.

Easy to use

On the right side of the screen, a coloured menu will appear. It will look slightly different depending on which channel or digital service you are using.

If the menu has a link to a live sporting event like Olympics or Wimbledon, you can use the arrow keys on your remote to highlight that option and then press SELECT.

Or you can key in 3001, the Sport Multiscreen number, on your handset and press SELECT. Sometimes this may not be available, in which case you can key in 300, for the latest Sports results and stories.

Watching Sport on the Red Button

Sky and Virgin Media subscribers now have a permanent place for Sport video, between one and six extra streams, depending on what live Sport is available to the BBC. You can choose a video stream or a text section by pressing the appropriate number key.

Freeview viewers can watch extra Sport when we have the capacity available.

All your familiar Ceefax results, tables, fixtures and stories are available here too on all platforms.

Watching News Interactive

If the menu has a link to the News Multiscreen, you can use the arrow keys on your remote to highlight that option and then press SELECT. Or you can key in 1001, the News Multiscreen number, on your handset and press SELECT.

It is the gateway to more video and text. Sky subscribers and most Virgin Media subscribers will find six video screens which are continuously updated throughout the day.

These include the headlines in two minutes, sport, the UK weather forecast, video choice, entertainment headlines and in-depth coverage of a top story, live event or news conference.

Highlighting each screen will give you a brief summary of the content. By pressing SELECT, you can watch in quarter screen.
