'Lost' driver dies outside hospital

It is believed taxi driver Malcolm Dean might have got lost and collapsed from a heart attack as he tried to seek help.

His body - which may have lain undiscovered for about four hours - was found on a construction site at the Hull Royal Infirmary.

A new maternity wing is being built nearby and pedestrians are directed away from the normal route.

'Thorough investigation'

Mr Dean, 61, was found by nurses arriving for their shift at 0430 BST on 18 August.

Other staff reported that they had seen his taxi parked less than 30 yards from the accident and emergency department up to four hours earlier.

It is thought Mr Dean, from Hull, had driven himself to the hospital after suffering a heart attack.

A spokeswomen for the Hull and East Yorkshire Hospital Trust said: "We would like to offer our sincere condolences to Mr Dean's family and assure them that the trust is conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mr Dean's death.

"We will also co-operate fully with any investigation that may be required by the coroner."
