Same sex unions being considered

Same-sex couples living in Jersey may soon be able to enter into civil partnerships.

The island's Council of Ministers is due to look at the financial implications for States departments early this year.

If such partnerships are deemed to be financially viable, they could be approved in Jersey.

That would give same-sex couples the same property, social security and pensions rights as a husband and wife.

Civil partnerships were introduced in the UK three years ago.
