People urged to claim tax bonus

People in Jersey who may be eligible for a £50 Goods and Services Tax (GST) bonus have only two weeks left to make their claims.

The bonus is designed to compensate for the cost of tax paid on food since May.

Households where one adult has been resident in Jersey for at least five years and no-one is liable to pay income tax for 2007 can claim.

The States voted in August to exempt food from GST. Claims must be submitted to Social Security by 15 December.

Minister Paul Routier, said staff will try to ensure those who apply and qualify will get their £50 bonus before Christmas.

The 2009 bonus could be increased to £150 is proposals by the minister are approved by the States.
