Call for funds for natural births

An organisation which promotes natural childbirth in Jersey has called on the States to invest more in maternity care for islanders.

The National Childbirth Trust claims that in the UK and Jersey there is a growing trend for babies to be born by Caesarean section.

The number of Caesarean births in Jersey is around 30% per year.

But the local branch of the charity wants maternity resources increased to encourage natural birth.

The States Maternity and Neonatal Service said it helped over 1,000 women to give birth last year.
