Group's concern over time switch

A group opposing a change to Central European Time (CET) has admitted if the UK ever switched, Jersey would almost certainly have to follow suit.

In the first referendum to be held in Jersey, islanders will be able to vote on the issue on Wednesday.

Senator Jimmy Perchard, who proposed the referendum, said the switch would give people a better quality of life.

But the "No To Time Change" group said its main objection was moving to a time zone ahead of the UK.

Evening daylight

Some business leaders have said such a change could affect new business.

The group is also worried about the impact a change could have on flight times, and darker and colder mornings.

Guernsey is awaiting the results of the Jersey referendum which could see clocks in the Channel Islands moving one hour ahead of GMT.

The switch would mean more evening daylight in the summer.
