Final Eye-opener hit by high wind

Big wheel

The Jersey Eye has closed a day early due to strong winds.

The big wheel was due to make its final rotations on Sunday after four months of operation but winds up to gale force eight forced its premature closure.

The 197ft (60m) high observation wheel opened to the public in June but visitor numbers were disappointing.

It needed to carry from 20,000-35,000 people to cover the cost of bringing it to Jersey, but only attracted 3,500 in its first month.

Now it will be dismantled and removed.
