Broadband speeds could quadruple

People living in Jersey could see broadband speeds quadruple by the end of the year.

Jersey Telecom, which controls the broadband network in the island, says it is aiming to provide broadband speeds of up to 8MB by the end of 2008.

David Viera, from Jersey Telecom, said work was being carried out to upgrade the broadband network.

Top broadband speeds in the island are currently 2MB. Mr Viera described the project as "quite a major bit of work."

"Current plans are to develop new broadband services for launch towards the end of this year and in speed terms, we'll be looking to deliver up to 8MB for as many lines as possible," said Mr Viera.
