Detox call to help island addicts

Members of Jersey States are being urged to think about funding a new detox unit for people trying to come off drugs or alcohol.

The Director of Silkworth Lodge, a residential unit for people with drug and alcohol addictions, said the island would benefit from better facilities.

The existing unit only has 12 beds for people with addiction problems.

Vinni Knight said: "This area needs more funding as there are just not enough detox beds in the island."

She said islanders would benefit because the Alcohol and Drug Service is under a lot of pressure from the high number of people with addictions.
