Hundreds gather for tax protest
An estimated 1,200 opponents of a forthcoming tax on many goods and services in Jersey have been protesting in the Royal Square.
The 3% goods and services tax (GST) will be charged on most of Jersey's sales from next May.
Supporters argue it is needed to make up money which will be lost to the government once a new low tax system for businesses comes in.
But opponents fear tourism and people on low incomes will be hit.
There are also fears the original 3% will eventually rise.
Over the past two months 15,000 signatures have been collected on a Consumer Council petition.
