Island to host French bike trials

Jersey's major road will be closed for a day in April for trials in a French cycling race.

The island is to host time trials for the Tour de Bretagne in which cyclists take part in a number of laps against the clock.

Victoria Avenue will be shut from 0915 to 1700 BST on 25 April. The organisers may also use some lay-bys between 0500 and 2100.

It will cost the island £25,000 to stage the trials.

A spokesman for the Tourism Department said it was an important event which would generate business for the island.
