Manx digital switchover completed

Digital switchover character

The television transmitter system on the Isle of Man has been switched over to an entirely digital service.

The remaining three analogue channels were turned off in the early hours of Thursday, as the final stage of the digital switchover was completed.

The changes started when the analogue signal for BBC Two was switched off and the eight BBC digital channels and red button service made available in June.

Viewers will need to install or re-tune Freeview or other digital receivers.

Services at the Douglas transmitter were due to be restored by 0600 BST on Thursday, said a spokeswoman for Digital UK, the independent organisation leading the process of digital TV switchover in the UK.

Services at the Beary Peark, Jurby and Port St Mary relay transmitters are expected to be restored by mid-morning and may be subject to some interruptions to services during the day, a Digital UK spokesman said.

Services at the Foxdale, Glenmaye, Ramsey, Union Mills, Kimmeragh and Laxey relay transmitters are expected to be restored by mid-afternoon.
