Pedigree sheep is attacked by dog

A pedigree sheep worth more than £3,000 had to be put down after it was savaged by a dog.

The Texel ewe was found with extensive injuries to its face and mouth on the coastal path just north of Peel headlands on Friday morning.

The animal had won first reserve at the Royal Agricultural Show in 2006.

The ewe also had two lambs which were uninjured and police believe it may have been injured trying to defend them.

Pc Ian Scott, of Manx Police, said: "The injuries to this sheep were appalling to witness.

"Its mouth was torn to pieces with large open wounds and it had a further bite mark on its rear quarters. The animal had clearly suffered immensely as it was unable to move when eventually located."
