New junior school formally opened

A new £7.5m junior school in the Isle of Man has been officially opened.

More than 250 pupils have started at Scoill Ree Gorree - King Orry's School - with Chief Minister Tony Brown performing Friday's formal unveiling.

The building, which replaced the 100-year-old Albert Road Junior School, is on Lazayre Road in Ramsey.

Mr Brown pledged the government's commitment to investing in education and praised the commitment of teachers and the enthusiasm of the children.

Best facilities

"The government continues to be totally committed to investing in a high quality of education for our children," he said.

"We want them to have the best facilities and opportunities that we can afford."

The school has 14 classrooms, group rooms, special needs and nurture facilities, a library, a double court sports hall and an outdoor teaching area.

There is also a football pitch for use by both pupils and the Ramsey Youth Football Club, and a floodlit training area.
