Motorist held after hit-and-run

A motorist was arrested after reversing onto a pelican crossing and narrowly missing a group of pedestrians.

Officers spotted the black Audi making the manoeuvre on Loch Promenade, before it struck a blue car on the crossing.

The man drove off before abandoning the car about one mile away in fields below the Carnane transmitter. He was arrested a short time later.

Officers are now looking for the woman whose car was struck by the Audi, as well as other witnesses to the crash.

Anyone who saw the car being driven suspiciously in the Douglas area is also asked to contact police.

The man, who is in his late 30s, remains in custody.
