Firefighters mapping island risk

The Isle of Man Fire Service believes residents and businesses can help it reduce the threats its crews face during emergency incidents.

Three fire officers are meeting owners and occupiers of Manx buildings to develop an evidence-based "risk profile" of the island.

It will be combined with historical data to help shape the future direction of the service.

Members of the public are being urged to engage in the project.

Home Affairs Minister Adrian Earnshaw said: "In order to deliver the most appropriate prevention, protection and response measures required to meet modern-day challenges, it is necessary to research and evaluate the risks to life, our economy, our heritage and the environment.

"This risk identification programme will provide the foundation for maintaining an efficient and effective fire and rescue service in the island.

"I would urge members of the public to play their part by assisting the firefighters during their visits."
