Pet owners in the Isle of Man's capital are being urged to observe the new by-law signs in public places where dogs are banned.
The prohibited areas include the town's garden squares, where dog waste bins have also been removed.
Fixed penalty notices can be issued to dog owners who break the new rules.
Councillor Stephen Pitts, from Douglas Borough Council, said that a dog exercising area had been provided in Nobles Park.
The by-law areas are detailed on the council's website and include school playing fields, football areas and children's play areas.
Douglas council leader David Christian said: "Now the signs have been erected our enforcement team will be vigilant in ensuring the bye-laws are strictly observed with regard to the prohibiting of dogs from specified public open spaces such as the town's garden squares."
