A 58-year-old man has been stabbed by a man who asked him for a cigarette in Manchester.
The victim was getting into his car which was parked on Hannet Road in Woodhouse Park when the man asked him.
When he refused, the offender pulled out a small kitchen knife and slashed him on the hand.
He then turned round and began walking away before running back and stabbing the man in the stomach in the attack which happened at about 0600 BST.
The offender then ran off down Hollins Walk.
The victim was taken to hospital but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the assault and describe the attacker as white, about 5ft 8in (1.73m) tall, stocky, with short dark hair and stubble.
He was wearing a 3/4 length black coat with a hood, black jeans and black shoes. According to the victim he smelt strongly of alcohol.
Det Insp Mark Willdigg said: "This was a motiveless attack on a man who was minding his own business.
"It is fortunate the victim did not suffer more serious injuries, but the assault has left him shaken."
