Taxi drivers strike over licences

Taxi drivers on the Isle of Man staged a strike in protest at government plans to remove restrictions on the number of licences issued.

The proposals would also enable the cabs to operate island-wide instead of restricting them to certain areas.

The two-hour strike started at 1130 BST on Friday at what is usually a very busy period in Douglas.

It meant anyone going out in Douglas on Friday night had to make alternative arrangements for their journey home.
