Isle of Man's competition blooms

Douglas promenade Residents on the Isle of Man are being encouraged to make colourful improvements to their community for the Island in Bloom competition.

All local authorities are being urged to take part with the overall winner representing the island in the Britain in Bloom contest.

Last year Douglas was the overall winner of the competition and will represent the island later this year.

There are 10 categories including hotels, businesses and restaurants.

This year it has also been decided to include a post office category to promote excellence among these community-based businesses.

All those local authorities who enter are eligible to receive a £50 grant towards administration costs.

Tourism and leisure minister, Hon David Cretney MHK said the competition "results in people coming together to improve their neighbourhoods and strengthen local communities".
