Sport team sought for field lease

A local sports team could take on the day-to-day running of Guernsey's Victoria Avenue playing fields, under plans being considered by ministers.

A group is being sought by the Culture and Leisure Department to lease the site.

In return for the full use of its facilities, the group or team would have to maintain the premises.

Culture and Leisure Minister Mike O'Hara said that football and cricket groups had already shown an interest.

The Culture and Leisure Department said the main aim of leasing out the area was to improve the opportunities for sport on the site.

The playing fields currently feature a full-sized football pitch and a smaller training pitch.
