Freight container to be replaced

The largest container vessel serving the Channel Islands is being taken out of service early next year.

Huelin-Renouf's replacement for the 30-year-old MV Huelin Dispatch, will coincide with the company's relocation from Portsmouth to Southampton.

The new purpose-built vessel will serve the lifeline freight service between the UK, Guernsey and Jersey.

The company operates its own warehousing, local transport and a distribution service in the islands.

Spokesman Mike Le Feuvre told BBC News the company expected the new vessel to be completed and ready for service by the end of January.

"We hope to offer an improved service to the islands," he said.

MV Huelin Dispatch will be sold when the new vessel is brought into service.
