Island 'ready for terror attack'

Guernsey's Emergency Planning Officer is assuring residents that the island is prepared for any possible terrorist attacks that may be carried out.

There are currently no plans to follow UK-style moves to issue leaflets to every household.

However, Malcolm Parker said that information on what to do in the event of such an emergency was available if people wanted it.

He said he was confident measures were in place to deal with any crisis.

Mr Parker said: "The reality is that the threat to Guernsey is very, very low.

"But I think it would be very foolhardy if any state decided to do absolutely nothing to take precautions in relation to terrorist incidents.

"The threat is low, but that is not to say that there are not emergency plans in place to deal with incidents in the Bailiwick."
