Deadly fire sweeps Bulgaria train

Map A fire swept through an overnight train in Bulgaria leaving at least three people dead and another nine injured.

More than 60 people were in the two coaches hit by the blaze on board the nine-car service from the capital Sofia to the north-eastern town of Kardam.

Rail officials said some passengers had been trapped in the burning carriages. It is not known what sparked the fire, which erupted near Cherven Bryag.

A policeman was among the injured taken to hospital after inhaling smoke.

The blaze broke out at around 2340 (2140 GMT) on Thursday, said transport officials.

"Some people could not leave the burning carriages. There are at least three deaths. We suspect the number of casualties may increase," a rail official told local media.
