Germany frees terror gang member

Eva Haule German authorities have released a former left-wing militant, Eva Haule, who was jailed for life in 1994 for attacks in which three Americans died.

Haule, 53, was a member of the radical Red Army Faction (RAF), responsible for a wave of assassinations and bombings in Germany in the 1970s and 1980s.

She was convicted for the murder of a US soldier in 1985 and the subsequent bombing of the US Rhein-Main airbase.

Two died in the airbase blast. Haule has served 21 years in prison.

She was released on Friday in Berlin after being granted five years' parole, German court officials confirmed on Monday.

A Frankfurt court ruled that she no longer posed any threat to the public.

Another former key figure in the RAF, Brigitte Mohnhaupt, was released in March.

The RAF, also known as the Baader-Meinhof gang, had a violent anti-capitalist agenda, targeting those it deemed responsible for US imperialism and capitalist oppression.

Two other former RAF militants - Christian Klar and Birgit Hogefeld - remain in jail.
