Italian fashion idol Ferre dies

Italian designer Gianfranco Ferre in Milan in February 2006 Italian fashion designer Gianfranco Ferre has died in a Milan hospital after suffering a brain haemorrhage.

Ferre, 62, was found dead at 2100 (1900 GMT), said an announcement from San Raffaele hospital doctors. He was taken ill on Friday.

He was stylistic director at Christian Dior in Paris from 1989 to 1997.

Trained as an architect, he turned to fashion in the 1970s, starting with accessories before launching his own label, Baila.

Ferre has received the highly acclaimed Italian fashion award 'L'Occhio d'Oro' several times.
